Martyrs create faith more than faith creates martyrs. Bantayog Ng Mga Bayani, a site that preserves the memory of the victims and fallen heroes who fought for freedom during the Martial Law, has a Wall of Remembrance wherein 326 names are etched in black granite: this is to remind present and future generations of the insurmountable struggle that many people went through to reclaim democracy.
Eduardo Castillo’s towering Inang Bayan sculpture at the entrance, is a fierce and grieving mother cradling a fallen son in one arm, while the other reaches skyward toward freedom. Inside the two-story center of the Bantayog Memorial Center are the Museo ng Bantayog which lays down the memorabilia and stories of the people’s resistance to the dictatorship leading to People Power Revolution, and the Bantayog Library and Archives where printed media and other materials relevant to the period can be found.
